About

Joanna Wiederhorn is a psychotherapist practicing in downtown Brooklyn, Manhattan and virtually.  She holds a Masters degree from Smith College School for Social Work, where she was trained to understand her clients within the many contexts that inform their lived experiences – social, economic, racial, generational, and cultural.  Joanna completed advanced training in relational psychodynamic theory at the Steven Mitchell Center for Relational Studies in New York City.  Much of her work involves the treatment of existential anxieties, relationship issues, life transitions, trauma and depression.  Joanna is also accredited as a yoga therapist by the International Association of Yoga Therapists.

Philosophy

Psychotherapy is fundamentally about discovering a deeper sense of personal meaning, greater self-understanding, and self-acceptance. It offers the possibility of coming into contact with a more enlivened state of being. Psychotherapy can help us move through life with a greater degree of freedom and flexibility, feeling more connected to ourselves and others along the way.

My work is shaped by psychodynamic and existential approaches. My complimentary background as a yoga therapist includes considerable training and expertise in embodiment and mindfulness practices, which I draw upon in my clinical work.
